Dear Friends,

The wait has finally ended and just like that, we have one week of camp in the books. It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to Camp Sewataro’s 60th season! We could not be more excited to share in this time of celebration with all of you.

Last weekend, counselors came together in preparation for the 2019 season. Counselors spent Saturday and Sunday going over camp expectations and strategizing for camper’s first day of camp.

On Monday, campers and counselors were able to experience “summer as it should be” with the beautiful weather. It could not have been a more perfect day for the first day of camp!

The rain on Tuesday did not dampen any of our camp spirit! Tribes could be heard all around camp continuing to sing out classic Sewataro cheers. Tuesday also brought Camp Sewataro’s first Gizo service of the year! Long-time staff member and former Gizmo master, Doug Hamilton, ended up with the gizmo. After answering the question “incorrectly,” he and sports counselor Tom Mulherin performed a gizmo service of doing impressions of whales, monkeys and fellow counselor Jay Eidson!

On Wednesday, the fun continued with the Wacky Wheel of Wednesday at opening exercises. “Captain” Brad Carlson guessed the closest to the correct answer and was given the opportunity to spin the Wacky Wheel. After landing on “Sewataro Apparel,” Brad is now the proud owner of a Sewataro sweatshirt! Congratulations Brad!

At closing exercises on Thursday, we welcomed some very special guests. The former Gizmo master, known to campers as “The Rogue”, and John Fitz both made appearances! Both have been an important part of Sewataro’s history for the past 25 years: singing and entertaining us in special ways.

On Friday, we ran a Thursday schedule due to the camp being closed for the Fourth of July holiday. However, Fridays wouldn’t be complete without a Friday special event. During lunch, counselors competed in a counselor lip-sync battle!

The event was hosted by Jimmy Fallon and DJ Marsha Mellow and featured performances from each section group. The Fox, Bear and Eagles showcased songs ranging from modern hits to Disney classics. By the end of the first round, Team Eagle was on top with the Fox and Bear teams tied. After another round of competition, by way of applause meter, the Eagle team was declared the winner! The event made for an exciting lunch period and a great way to end the week.

As we say goodbye to the first week of camp, we are looking forward to continuing the fun into week two as well as the rest of the summer.

Warmly,

The Taylors, Nathan, and Emmy
