Join Our Activity Specialist Team

Activity Counselors bring Sewataro’s diverse program to life. Throughout the day, they welcome groups of campers into their activity area and create experiences that are safe, engaging, age-appropriate, and fun.

Our Activity Specialists follow three guiding principles: play safe, make it fun, and teach the skills.

Activity Departments

Opportunities may be available across several program areas:

  • Adventure and Outdoor Skills: Adventure Challenge, archery, nature, gardening, boating, campcraft, and fishing
  • Creative Arts and Performance: Crafts, pottery, Makerspace, music, cooking, and drama
  • Sports and Recreation: Teammbuilding games, target sports, soccer, basketball, flag football, frisbee, street hockey, tennis, and golf

Specific openings vary each summer based on returning staff and program needs.

Activity Specialist Opportunities

  • Activity Head: Must be at least 18 years old by the start of camp. Activity Heads develop an eight-week program plan, lead instruction, organize materials, maintain a safe activity space, and adapt lessons for campers of different ages and abilities.

  • Activity Assistant: Must be at least 16 years old by the start of camp. Activity Assistants help deliver materials, demonstrate skills, engage campers, and support the Activity Head in delivering each lesson. Assistant positions are only available on the Crafts team and Fishing team.

More Than an Activity Role

Activity Specialists are also assigned to a home-base camper group. They join that group during morning arrival, lunch, special events, and the end of the day, working alongside the Group Counselors to support campers and build connections within the broader camp community.

What Our Activity Specialists Have in Common

Activity Specialists are creative, prepared, encouraging, and comfortable leading groups. They can adjust their approach for different ages, keep campers engaged, and balance skill development with fun. Previous experience in the activity area is helpful, but the ability to connect with and teach children is equally important.

Certain areas may require additional certifications or pre-camp training. Any position-specific requirements will be included in the job posting and discussed during the hiring process.
